POR & PARA WITHIN SPANISH

It’s indeed tricky that the spanish language has two words that the two mean ‘for’. Although, it can be done to distinguish between them.

To begin with, Por has more meanings than Para so, if in hesitation, opt for Por. & if you want to say ‘in order to’ take a step or other, always use Para.

Por suggests: in exchange for, on account of, as a consequence of, for this sake of, on behalf involving, for (time), in quest of, per, during, in, via, down, & by.

Para means: purpose (in order to), destination, intended for, until such time as, only to, & with way too… to.

See these examples:

POR

Gana cien euros por d??a (the affected individual earns 100 euros per (some sort of) day)

Fue por el m?dico (he or she went for (in search of) the doctor)

Trabaj? all?? por seis meses (My partner & i worked there for (time) few months)

Duermen por la noche (they sleep during the night time)

PARA

Se levanta a las ocho para ir al mercado (the individual gets up at 8 (in order to) go to the sector)

Salgo ma?ana par Los Estados Unidos (I’m departing tomorrow for (destination) that States)

Este regalo es para mi madre (this present is for (intended for) my mother)

Soy demasiado viejo para trabajar (My business is too old to work)

Both prepositions Por & Para are also used in a range of idioms (expressions or phrases), as with:

Por los siglos de los siglos means ‘for ever and ever’.

Para siempre suggests ‘forever’.
